Storm Welted Construction

Storm welted construction uses a welt similar to that of a goodyear welted construction boot, but wider. The extra width allows the welt to be bent upwards, creating a seal around the junction between the upper and the mid-sole. Aptly named, the storm-welt is constructed to offer greater moisture protection than a traditional goodyear welt.

There are two main differences between the storm selt and traditional goodyear welt or flat welt. Firstly, storm welted boots typically have a 360-degree protection as opposed to the three quarters usually offered by a flat welt.

Secondly, the look of the welt. Flat welts, as the name suggests, are flat whereas the Storm Welt comes up the side of the upper which provides superior water resistance. A storm welt also gives a more authentic, chunkier look suited to heavy-duty country wear.
